"He has this weird idea that people who drive hummers and SUVs can't see him. Even when they're no longer in their cars he's sure they look right through him. Their investment in such an expensive form of transportation has affected their perception: 'SUV and hummer owners are blind to the people and things that don't reflect the consumer choices to which they've become habituated'--his words, more or less."
